Enterprise-level + Publishing

New York Times Employee Intranet

Creating an Enterprise-level intranet of company information and news serving 6,000 employees.

In this project, I worked as a lead web engineer/contractor on a team with the digital agency Imarc. In collaboration with engineers from the New York Times, we developed a new internal WordPress website, or intranet, called “At the Times”.   This intranet served over 6,000 employees.

Working closely with UX designers and internal Times engineers, I designed the website’s data architecture. I also authored detailed specifications for external developers to build custom WordPress blocks and page templates.

Teaming up with front-end developers, we  implemented custom blocks using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF). This resulted in an enhanced custom editing experience within the Block Editor for content creators.

Working in close collaboration with the internal Times team, we migrated legacy data and tailored custom blocks. This was all part of a custom WordPress theme using the Bedrock development system within a Docker environment.

In the end, the project resulted in our team’s successful migration of over 3,000 existing pages from the Classic WordPress editor to the Block Editor.
