A non-profit athletic club, based in Portsmouth, NH and covering Seacoast New Hampshire and Southern Maine, wanted their website to be upgraded. Previously the club’s site consisted of static pages. Dynamic features such as email sign up, member comments, and an event calendar were required as the club began to grow. Club board members also want to be able to change the site. WordPress was chosen as a content management system (CMS) for this 200 member club. WordPress is based on PHP and MySQL.
The club had quite a bit of information on activities that needed be displayed up front. The information was categorized and prioritized. High priority items were placed on the most important real estate on the home page.
A 3-column theme was created using the club colors and logo. The outer columns were used for movable text widgets. The center column displays the main pages and blog posts. Widgets were used for event alerts, polls, and social media links, such as Twitter and Facebook. Running event photo albums were created with links to Picasa. SEO techniques were used to attract new members.
